more on innovation

The fourth masterclass entitled, 'The Mouse that Roared: Innovation,
Intrapreneurship and Acquisitions,' presented by Professor Dennis Shaughnessy
(Northeastern), explored topics such as platform acquisitions, intellectual
property, US corporate governance principles, and strategic entrepreneurship
in the life sciences, in the context of Shaughnessy's former company,
Charles River Laboratories. Intrapreneurship is a new spin on entrepreneurship
where it involves innovation within an established organisation. He also
discussed progress being made in relation to international manufacturing
operations of life sciences' companies. Shaughnessy was a senior executive
with Charles River Laboroatories, a Massachusetts based company that provides
enabling products and services to the global pharmaceutical, biotech and
medical device industries.

Observations on innovation

Dr Thomas Esselman delivered an inspiring second masterclass titled,
'Innovation in Science & Engineering,' what does this have
to do with business? Although the Esselman masterclass focused on science
and engineering, the processes outlined were applicable to all business
disciplines, such as product development, marketing, entrepreneurship,
accounting, and other fields. "I think the most interesting thing,
is how innovation in science and engineering is related to making money
in business," said Dr Esselman.

So after much deliberation I finally made a decision on technology.
I've owned an XDA Exec for about a year now, and I've really not been using it very much, partially because its big, but also because in some small way I guess I am a slight technophobe......well, not a phobe, butmore just, do I have the time to go through trying to set this thing up.....and invariably over the past few months...make that last year, the answer has been no!

Anyway, I finally brought it out, partly because of the Apple i-phone. Now, am I really the only one who doesn't like the Apple Corporation? I'll tell you why.
They come up with a sexy little creature such as the ipod - then they completey screw it by not making it truly generic in it's format and ability to download tunes in other formats, you have to use their software and therefor buy further into the Apple revolution. I don't like that, I prefer openess. If you create something worth having, then I'll buy it and use it but it you add other conditions of use onto that thing, I'll shy away....
So, the i-phone. Well, it certainly looks sexy, will I be tempted to get one, sure I will, but I wonder if the constraints of music and ability to communicate with other devices will plague it, and my need for open communication. So, in deference I decided to put some effort into getting the XDA up and running.
Yesterday I put TOMTOM onto it after purchasing the North American and Canadian maps, and a GPS receiver. Total cost about $150. Does it work......in a word, yes. The software was intuitive, the GPS hooked up no problem through bluetooth and i was away driving around the back streets of Boston last night in a muddy Rover.
So, in my quest to have all singing all dancing technology, I've moved one step closer.

Into the breach once more we go

Hopefully I will be able to figure out how to post video.
I went up to Winter Romp 2007 this weekend and rather than it being an enormous orgy of bodies playing in the cold stuff, it was an enormous orgy of sexy four wheeled critters with everything Land Rover being represented...from Series to the latest Disco. Fabulous.
Now, before I get heady lets see if i can get the video thing!

OK, that failed, I guess I'll figure it out when I have a bit more time.

After seeing a dear friend, big Tommy G's blog spot, I thought, what the hell.
So, this space is going to be the place to catch up with my anecdotal comedies that i seem to trip over, onto, into and through as I pass through my daily life......
Why should you want to read it, dunno.
Why would I want to write it, well, dunno that either. I suppose that in the eons of generations to come someone might use it as evidence to demonstrate that intelligent life forms do exist on planet earth, perhaps it might end up in court as evidence to show that I am indeed a skullduggerous and most pultroonerous individual.
Perhaps you'll read it and I'll write it just because I think it is witty, funny or just plain daft.

I feel sure no one however will read it because of the grammar or spelling.

So, rock on, up, in, through, behind and over...........let the ramble begin..........
